The closure of Olivetti, in the early 90’s, sent the surrounding area in a deep crisis: to help overcome the resulting difficulties created for local industry, in January 1994, thanks to a formal agreement between the public administrations of Lombardy, Cremona and Crema, Reindustria was born.
From there a program was put in place to rebuild the productivity in the area and to create the IT Department of the University of Milan in Crema.
This agreement, backed by Regione Lombardia and the Ministry for Employment and Social Welfare, led to the re-development of the ex-Olivetti premises for the insertion of small and medium businesses, consortia and business service agencies. This program of business development has shown concrete results thanks to the direct support of the various trade associations and public entities at various levels – national, regional and local – and local banks.
The program came to a conclusion in 2004 with positive results both in quantity terms (open bracket, investments amounting to 90 million € , 200 companies financed, 735 jobs created) and in qualitative terms by the aversion of a possible crisis caused by a major company closer within the area.
